LISTEN TO EPISODE 98
Scott Dow:
"At the risk of pissing some of you off, we can't discuss your quiet quitters without addressing you. There's an old saying that,
'people don't quit jobs, they quit bosses'.
And it's true, especially with quiet quitters.
'Quiet quitting' is just a way to keep their jobs, but quit on you. So, a quick self-assessment.
- Have you ever bitched with a co-worker? Especially an employee?
- Looked for a job,
- Started a side hustle, or
- Embraced remote work?
If you have, you're human. If you haven't, you're a cyborg. And you don't need to listen anymore.
Now, I'm not judging you and I'm not blaming you. I'm just telling you the truth. Do you ever get frustrated, stressed or feel burnt out? If you do, you've got to ask yourself this tough question:
'why has the employee decided to keep their job but quit on me?'
Because that's what's happened.
Now, don't take it personal. They may really like you. In fact, they may think you're a great boss. But for whatever reason, they've decided to take a step back. They're not stepping away from the company. The pay is good enough, the benefits are good enough, and they have job security.
Again, I'm not judging and I'm not blaming. But I'm challenging you to look in the mirror. For whatever reason, they've stuck with the company, but they've quit on you. Chances are they're not judging you or blaming you either. Remember, they are a product of their environment. You can't control everything. You can't control the economic environment, you can't control the political environment, you can't control their home environment, and you can't control everything about the work environment.
But you have the biggest influence on their work environment. If you're struggling, chances are that's impacted at some level, your relationship with the team. And those relationships are the number one driver of employee engagement. So think about it. Be honest with yourself. And if you want some advice, listen to the next episode..."
