You've heard the saying, "can't see the forest for all the trees".
It's easy to focus on something small and miss the big picture.
Stress comes in small packages. Little things trigger stress.
Stress is subjective. It's triggered by perceptions, emotions and opinions.
You have to be objective. You want to see and consider all the facts. You want to see the forest.
To see the big picture (to be objective), you have to take a step back. You have to detach.
TIPS
- Take a thinking break - you can't detach while multi-tasking
- Focus on the present - avoid mental time travel
- Zoom out - think of yourself as an actor in a play
- Observe yourself in the 3rd person
- Check for thinking traps
- Listen with your eyes
