Some leaders wear stress like a badge of honor. But why?
- It's ego building - "I have a really stressful (important) job!"
- It excuses bad behavior - "Give me a break, I'm under a lot of stress!"
- It gets attention - "Don't you see what I'm dealing with?"
- It's contagious - "Look what I'm dealing with! You guys should take this seriously."
Why this matters
Stress is a way of showing you care, but it can be taken too far. Wearing stress is no badge of honor. It's a passive aggressive form of leadership! đ
It's "passive" when we harp on our symptoms while avoiding the cure. It's "passive" when we accept unhealthy coping mechanisms.
It's "aggressive" when we infect employees, friends and family with our stress.
