People think about the past, present or future - it's called mental time travel. Because we can think across time, we can be uncertain across time.
- Future uncertainty - our minds are wandering into tomorrow, next week, next month. ex. "What's going to happen?"
- Momentary uncertainty - our minds are focused on the present. ex. "What do I do right now?"
- Hindsight uncertainty - our minds wander into the past. ex. "What did that mean?"
"Future uncertainty" has to do with questions we can't answer today.
"Momentary uncertainty" has to do with choices we can make today.
"Future", "momentary" and "hindsight uncertainty" feed off one another.
Questions about the future cause doubt today. We become paralyzed. This is one reason employees disengage.
