We're constantly talking to ourselves. It's how our minds work.
The running, internal dialog is how we explain the world around us.
Self talk is largely subconscious. We don't naturally stop and think about what we're saying to ourselves.
Research shows (E.Kloss, University of Michigan) that when you use your name when talking to yourself (instead of saying “I”), you:
- Increase your chances of successfully completing any number of activities
- Minimize ruminating on an event after it’s over
- Decrease anxiety and depression
- Gain perspective
- Increase focus
- Better plan for the future
- Enhance Self Control
