When an actor auditions for a role, they’re asked to deliver a 1-minute monologue. And that’s all the time you’re going to have when delivering important leadership messages.
The average human attention span is about 8 seconds. That’s it! And people have very limited working memories. They can only juggle about 7 chunks of information at a time.
So like an actor auditioning for a role, you’ll want your performance to grab attention and to stay top of mind.
Think of your most important leadership messages as a performance. You’re not an actor, but in order to influence thought and behavior, your delivery has to be really good!
Actors rehearse their 1-minute monologues and so should you.
Mental rehearsals are nearly as effective as physical practice, so visualize yourself delivering the message, and keep an eye on your time. Remember - less is more!
